Every now and then I need an independent connection to my Maximo databasebecause I don’t want to rely on the use of MBOs. Usually this happens whenever I’m developing an interface where I need to read big amounts of data and can skip the MBO layer. Skipping the MBO layer is a necessity because it speeds up the reading process and doesn’t use so much memory.

In this post I’ll describe the way to manage database connections using Maximo’s connection management and user credentials.

By default dialog boxes in Maximo are created with connection to the main application. This is very helpful because you can access record data in the application without having to write any code. Using the default methods you can obtain the MboSet in the list tab and it’s records or the record loaded in an application. The drawback with this approach is that to use the dialog box at least one record must be loaded in the application. Whenever you try accesing a dialog without having records loaded in the application you’ll be presented with an emty and readonly dialog.

This post shows how to create a dialog box that doesn’t have any support on the loaded application.

Whenever I had to release a version of my project I had to manually update the versions of my project and it’s libraries. Another manual task was the creation of the tag in our version control system (svn). In order to automate this process I decided to give the maven-release-plugin.

While configuring the Maven Release plugin I encountered some problems. This post describes the steps I took in the plugin configuration process as well as problems I encountered along the way.
